We have house keys!

It’s a week later than planned but we have keys to Glenlochar. This beauty is actually our new home.

Mum, Tillie, Scarlet, and I have spent the week pottering around Kirkudbright trying to cross things off our never-ending To Do list and continually returning to the same old answer “we will know more when we see the house” We’ve done a little exploring of the local area and it’s a strange feeling being somewhere new knowing you’re not there on holiday but staying in temporary accommodation so it also doesn’t feel like home. I think we’ve both been expecting to pack the car up, drive back to No31 and carry on with life there.

But yesterday we actually got to see inside the house and walk around the grounds.

Yes, in case you missed that, we put an offer in on a house we hadn’t seen. Well, that two of the three of us hadn’t seen.

And yes we’re slightly mad.

You see we were looking for property during lockdown so travel wasn’t allowed other than for essential reasons. At one point that did include buying property but the 7-hour drive wasn’t doable in one go with a 10-month-old. And staying over wasn’t allowed/appealing in the situation/doable within work constraints. So Kev came up to view the house, and others, on his own.

And mum and I put all our faith in him!

When he came to see Glenlochar I already knew she was going to be home. And after spending time with the previous owner showing him round, Kev loved it too. I think mum kind of went along with our excitement!

So we put an offer in, had it accepted and planned the move all without mum or I seeing the house 😳

So although the original plan was that we would just see it on the day we moved in, the owners deciding they needed another week to pack led to an unplanned and stressful week for mum and I feeling very much in limbo.

But, it did mean mum, Tillie, and I got to see inside the house yesterday, the day before we got the keys instead of on the day!

Walking around inside was very surreal and we wandered from room to room in a bit of a daze – apart from Tillie who had a whale of a time running full speed around all the empty rooms. Having seen so many photos and spent so many hours planning, it all felt familiar but strange at the same time.

From the second she walked in Tillie loved it and if it’s good enough for her, it’s good enough for all of us 😍

Although we collected the keys today, we won’t sleep there until tomorrow as that was the only day we could find removals men to collect our belongings from storage and drop them off. So we’ve checked out of the Airbnb and are spending the night in a hotel where we’re being reunited with Kev after 5 long weeks! Mum and I both came away from our visit yesterday feeling a little shell shocked as we realised there’s no going back now and just how big the project we’ve taken on is. But today we spent a few hours talking it all through with Tony the builder as we walked around our house and I think we’re both feeling a little less overwhelmed today – Tony didn’t back out as soon as he got inside which must be a positive sign that it’s not a lost cause (although he definitely thinks we’re bonkers for not having seen the house before buying it).

He’s given us instructions to get cracking with stripping everything, and I mean everything, from inside the house so that’s our starting point.
